When the EURO MOTO kicks off the second half of the season in Oschersleben from July 31 to August 2, every thousandth of a second will count for Florian Alt. The Superbike rider from Team Holzhauer Racing Promotion has prepared for the weekend with two test sessions.
The only Honda rider in the field had his hands full during the six-week summer break. He spent nearly a week working as a host for the Sky television network. Alt turned up twice for testing with the HRP team in Oschersleben—first for two days, then again for one more day.
The races on the Magdeburger Börde were extremely important, because this was exactly where the BMW riders, in particular, had set the bar high last year. Lukas Tulovic was also unbeatable back then. He won both races on his Ducati Panigale V4R. Alt secured the best possible results for Honda with second- and third-place finishes.
This time, the 30-year-old 2023 champion is heading into the race feeling more confident. “I think we’re closer now than we were last year,” says Alt. The motorcycle underwent further development in many areas during testing. Exactly what was changed remains a trade secret. One thing, however, remains the same: “We’ll keep a low profile, as usual.”
Florian Alt is focusing primarily on race Sunday. It’s not about setting a spectacular qualifying time, but about holding on for the full 18 laps—or 66.006 kilometers—at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. “When I think back to Most and Brno, I was able to make up a lot of ground in the final laps. It’s not about being really fast just once—what matters is being up front at the end.”
Alt was impressed that defending champion Lukas Tulovic secured a victory last weekend in his debut in the Italian Superbike Championship. “That shows just how high the level in EURO MOTO has become. Tulo currently has the best overall package.”
The Oschersleben weekend is fast approaching. And it’ll be exciting to see how the Honda Fireblade performs when the lights go out.
