Due to the low number of participants, there will be no separate IDM standings in the sidecar class for 2025. Motor Presse Stuttgart, as the promoter and organizer of the series, is responding to a trend that has been emerging over the long term.
Declining participant numbers have led to the discontinuation of a separate classification in the IDM Sidecar series. Despite various efforts to attract participants, there were fewer entries than in the previous year. While the remaining IDM Sidecars will continue to be included in the World Championship field, they will no longer be counted separately in the points system.
Series manager Normann Broy sums it up: “The IDM Sidecar has an excellent reputation that extends far beyond Germany’s borders. In recent years, it has provided a platform for much-needed young riders like Luca Schmidt, Lennard Göttlich, Lucas Krieg, and Patrick Werkstetter, allowing them to make the leap to the World Championship. On the one hand, that makes us happy; on the other hand, there aren’t enough young riders to justify a separate IDM championship series from a sporting perspective. But nothing is set in stone. If the numbers start to rise again in the coming years, things will look different.”
The FIM Sidecar World Championship features seven race weekends this season. A particular highlight is the Sidecar Festival, which takes place in October at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The festival attracts sidecar riders from all over Europe. The World Championship finale will be held in the Magdeburger Börde region, rather than in Portugal as in previous years.
