Ducati will join the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) in 2024. A dealer partnership in Germany is making this possible. The IDM is thus seeing a significant expansion of its field of competitors with the addition of another renowned brand, as Ducati will compete for the championship title in the Superbike and Supersport classes. After Xavi Fores won the Superbike championship in 2014, the Italian manufacturer repeatedly drew attention with guest appearances in individual races, but did not compete for points. Thanks to the dedicated initiative of German dealers and an increase in the entry fee for riders, the long-awaited step into the official standings is now possible.
Normann Broy, Series Manager of the IDM, expressed his enthusiasm about Ducati’s return: “Ducati is a brand that has been stirring emotions on and off the racetrack for many years.” The manufacturer’s impressive history and global successes have captivated fans worldwide. Ducati’s integration into the IDM will not only enrich the championship but also meet the expectations of fans who have been eagerly awaiting this move.
“With BMW, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph, MV Agusta, KTM, and—in the new year—Ducati, there are now eight motorcycle manufacturers competing in the championship,” adds Bert Brandenburg, Head of Events at IDM promoter Motor Presse Stuttgart.
The 2024 IDM thus promises a thrilling competitive environment with an impressive lineup of leading motorcycle manufacturers.
