Marvin Siebdrath will make his debut in the Supersport class this coming IDM weekend in Assen. The reigning IDM champion in the 300cc class is thus venturing into new territory and is already racking up his first laps in preparation for next season.

After winning the IDM Supersport 300 championship last year and successfully switching from Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki to the Yamaha bLU cRU IDM by Kiefer Racing team, the current season has surprisingly been anything but smooth sailing for the 19-year-old. He is currently in tenth place in the championship standings, meaning defending his title is a distant prospect. “We’re aware of that, which is why we want to start preparing for next season now,” explains Marvin Siebdrath, who has long awaited his first outing in the Supersport class. “I’m really looking forward to the weekend in Assen and am excited to see how it goes,” Siebdrath continues. The Saxon isn’t entirely inexperienced on a Supersport motorcycle. In early July, he already raced for Yamaha in the Supersport class at the 7-hour race in Assen and had previously had the opportunity to test the bike in Oschersleben. “The switch from the 300cc bike to the Supersport bike went smoothly right away, and I felt very comfortable on the bike from the start,” Siebdrath reports on his first test rides.

In Assen, he wants to build on that feeling and take it easy. “I want to gain as much experience as possible in the races,” Siebdrath emphasizes, adding, “By next season, I want to at least be somewhat familiar with this class and know how things work here.” The move up to the next class is therefore a done deal.

It is now official: Siebdrath will leave the Supersport 300 class at the end of the season after five years and move up to the IDM Supersport class next year with the support of the Yamaha bLU cRU IDM by Kiefer Racing. “It’s a fact that we want to continue with Marvin,” confirms team boss Tina Kiefer. A long-term partnership had been planned from the outset. “We want to offer our riders prospects and let them grow, which is why the move to IDM Supersport is now the next logical step for Marvin,” Tina Kiefer continues. During his guest appearance at Assen, Siebdrath will once again be accompanied by his riding coach Sandro Cortese, who will support him both mentally and with riding tips.
