The pole position for the upcoming races in the FIM Superside/IDM Sidecar Championship has been decided: Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clement (Team Ellis/Clement/LCR Yamaha) dominated Saturday’s second qualifying session as well and will start from the front row. They improved their time by half a second in the morning compared to yesterday’s practice and set a lap time of 1:40.418, leaving the rest of the field behind.
The duo thus finished ahead of Ben and Tom Birchall (Wyckham Blackwell by Birchall/LCR Honda). The British riders made the most of the warm temperatures in Q2 and improved their pace by nearly a full second, securing second place on the grid.
Starting from the row behind, the newly formed Steinhausen Racing Team will begin the race from third place. Harry Payne and his co-driver Kevin Rousseau (ARS Yamaha) also improved their time by nearly a second compared to the previous day (1:40.926 minutes) and moved up five positions.
Sam and Tom Christie (Hannafin Racing/LCR Yamaha) will start from fourth place, followed by Pekka Päivärinta and Ilse de Haas (Team Bonovo Action Team/LCR Yamaha), who made some final adjustments to their sidecar during qualifying.
Race control issued warnings to Tim Reeves and Mark Wilkes (Team Bonovo Action Team/ARS Yamaha) as well as Stephen Kershaw and Ryan Charlwood (Kershaw Racing/LCR Yamaha). Both crossed the white line at the end of the pit lane prematurely, but no penalties will be imposed for the races. Reeves will start the race from sixth position on the third row, while Kershaw will start from seventh.
The FIM/IDM Sidecar sprint race will take place this Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., and the main race on Sunday at 2:10 p.m. Both races will be broadcast live at www.idm.de/live or, in English, via the FIM livestream.
