The Hertrampf MO Yamaha Racing Team is actually known as a fixture in the IDM Superbike series, but that is about to change. Hertrampf is now also competing in the Supersport class, with Milan Merckelbagh as the rider.
For 21-year-old Merckelbagh, the last three years in the IDM Supersport have been a rollercoaster ride. His 23rd-place finish overall in 2019 was followed by a sharp rise that propelled the Dutch rider to sixth place on his Yamaha YZF-R6. Last season, however, he once again finished the year in 21st place in the standings. At the season finale in Hockenheim, it became clear that Merckelbagh was looking for new support for 2022, especially since his previous team had withdrawn from the IDM.
“Milan is very welcome here. He’s a great guy and he’s a good fit for us,” new team manager Denis Hertrampf was quick to note. He also explains why the move to the IDM Supersport is possible despite the team’s existing three-man Superbike lineup: “I don’t have to invest in equipment or build a new motorcycle for the IDM Supersport. Milan is bringing his own Yamaha. We’re providing him with technical support.” And he adds: “We’ve even signed another rider who will also be in our double garage. Nico Maier will compete for us in Pro Superstock.”
