IDM SBK: Paul Fröde Named to Compete in the Top Class on a Honda

“It’s about time we got started. Actually, I’d love to start right now,” says Paul Fröde. The 2020 IDM Superstock champion and 2021 class runner-up has now entered the IDM Superbike series. With his promotion, a second Honda rider is joining the premier class.

The 19-year-old from Hohenstein-Ernstthal will not be participating in the IDM spring test in Valencia in a week and a half. The Fireblades supplied by Honda Germany are still in the preparation phase—from configuring the electronics to applying the sponsor decals and finding a suitable team name. “We’re in the starting blocks, but we still need to get the project up and running.”

Over the past three years, Paul Fröde has been the only Honda rider in the IDM Superstock 600 class and has consistently finished in the top three in the overall standings.

Spectators are allowed at the IDM finale in Hockenheim

Good news for all IDM fans: Spectators will be allowed at the IDM finale in Hockenheim from September 25 to 27. A limited number of visitors per day will thus be able to witness the decisive races in Germany’s top motorcycle road racing series right at the track.

Tickets are sold exclusively online in advance, and spectators are assigned specific seats in the grandstands. Parking is also assigned according to seat assignments. Masks are required in the grandstands until spectators take their seats. These measures are part of the racetrack’s strict hygiene protocol, which allows spectators to attend on a limited basis. All details, including information on admission prices, are available online at: www.hockenheimring.de.

This means that Jonas Folger’s fans will also have a chance to see their idol race his Yamaha live before the end of the year. If everything goes according to plan, the World Championship wild-card rider from Barcelona will be able to celebrate his IDM championship title at Hockenheim. The championship titles in all classes won’t be decided until next weekend.

“We’re very happy that we’ll now be able to welcome spectators, at least for the IDM finale,” says IDM Series Manager Normann Broy regarding the last-minute decision. “We’d like to thank everyone who made this possible.” For those who are unable to get a ticket, the free livestream will still be available. As with all IDM events this year, all championship races and selected support races will be broadcast live on idm.de/live.
