News from DMSB Headquarters: The protest ruling dated June 28, 2026, has been overturned. Marcel Schrötter has been reinstated to third place, which had been taken away from him after the first EURO MOTO Superbike race in Most.
Recap: In the first race, a collision occurred on the second lap involving Lukas Tulovic (Triple M Ducati Racing Frankfurt). Schrötter (GERT56 by RS Speedbikes) failed to hold his line, took the emergency exit, cut across the chicane, and rejoined the race behind Tulovic.
In legalese, the DMSB states: “At the start of the second lap of the first race, at the end of the start-finish straight, the driver in the lead took the ‘emergency exit’ at Turn 1 and returned to the track at Turn 3.”
According to the rules, to avoid gaining an advantage by cutting the corner, the rider must have slowed down by one second in the first sector of the track. Schrötter finished the race in third place. The Apreco-Yamaha team filed a protest, alleging that Schrötter had not followed the rules. The race was already too far along to impose a long-lap penalty. Instead, Schrötter received a 3-second penalty. As a result, he dropped two places in the standings. The GERT56 by RS Speedbikes team appealed the stewards’ decision.
The appellant based his appeal on the fact that there was contact with the witness at the end of the start-finish straight, as a result of which he was forced to take the emergency exit. Consequently, he did not take the emergency exit to gain an advantage. For this reason, a long-lap penalty should not have been imposed on him during the race, meaning that the imposition of the 3-second time penalty was unlawful.
“As was unequivocally established by the race video and the witness’s testimony, the appellant was forced to take the emergency exit to avoid a fall and as a result of contact with the witness. The time penalty imposed pursuant to Article 14.3 of the regulations was therefore unjustified, as a long-lap penalty should not have been imposed on the appellant during the race.”
As a result of the ruling, the points standings in the EURO MOTO Superbike have changed.
