With temperatures reaching 38 degrees, not a single rider improved their time in the second qualifying session of the EURO MOTO Supersport the exception of the Czech rider Filip Novotný. The best lap times from the first session at the Autodrom Most remained unchanged. Dirk Geiger will start from pole position in Saturday’s race at 4:45 p.m. That also raises the question: How far up the grid will Daniel Blin make it?
Dirk Geiger triumphed with a lap time of 1:34.857 minutes, building up a lead of a solid two hundredths of a second over his Apreco-Yamaha teammate Lennox Lehmann. Yesterday, the Mannheim native had been slowed down by engine trouble. The Saxon’s bike also wasn’t running smoothly due to a faulty battery. Today, that was a thing of the past. Since it was clear that the air temperatures would continue to rise, the team had used both sets of tires for both riders in the first qualifying session in order to secure a good position. As a result, Geiger and Lehmann had no new tires available today.

The two Germans are in second and third place in the overall standings. Daniel Blin (Automarket AF Racing Team) holds the lead. The Polish Ducati rider has won every race so far. At Most, the 24-year-old will start from only 16th place. He crashed during the first qualifying session but was lucky to have completed at least one timed lap. The Ducati rider is doing well. He will compete in the race, but only a strong comeback this weekend can save him from a significant loss of points—or even the loss of the championship lead. Blin’s teammate Marcel Brenner will start from third on the grid, alongside Geiger and Lehmann.
Luca Göttlicher, riding the only MV Agusta in the field, qualified for fourth on the grid. This marked yet another time that the brand’s newcomer managed to lead the bike into the top group. Marvin Siebdrath set the fifth-fastest lap time on his Honda. The MCA team placed all of its riders in the top ten: the rider from Saxony, the Dane Julius Ahrenkiel-Frellsen, and the Bavarian Julius Caeser.

Siebdath is the riders’ spokesperson for the EURO MOTO Supersport spoke out yesterday during a meeting against shortening the race distances due to the heat. That remains the case. “The temperatures are borderline. Riding isn’t fun. But we’re competing in a competitive sport here, and that isn’t always fun. And all 19 riders are facing the same conditions.”
Yamaha rider Luca de Vleeschauwer (Team SWPN) rounds out the second row of the grid, and Jonas Folger on the development KTM (Team Freudenberg) leads off the third row.
