The first race of the EURO MOTO Sportbike class on Saturday in Most was not counted toward the standings. After two race stoppages, race officials decided not to schedule any further restarts. As a result, the race will not be counted, and no points will be awarded.
At the start, Stepan Zuda (Freudenberg RORA-PALIGO Racing) immediately took the lead from pole position and was the first to enter the chicane. Tobias Kitzbichler (RT Motorsports), who had started the race in third place, also got off to a good start and settled in right behind Zuda.
However, a serious incident occurred early in the race. Dutch rider ay-Jay Den Hoed (SWPN)rear-ended Mika Siebdrath (Freudenberg RORA-PALIGO Racing) in the chicane. Both riders crashed and slid across the asphalt, and Den Hoed’s Yamaha caught fire. Both riders were able to get off their motorcycles on their own, while the track marshals immediately intervened and extinguished the flames.
For both riders, race day was thus over early. The teams now also face an all-night shift to get the motorcycles ready for the second race.
After the interruption, the race was restarted for seven laps. Stepan Zuda got off to a good start from the pole once again, but this time guest driver Bruno Ieraci (RT Motorsports) was right on his tail. However, the race didn’t last long again. Another collision occurred further back in the field, this time between Tom Kuil (RT Motorsports) and Louis Rammerstorfer (Freudenberg RORA-PALIGO Racing). As a result, the red flag was displayed a second time.
The race officials then decided not to restart the race. Since no full lap was completed, the race will not be counted. Accordingly, no points will be awarded.
The action continues on Sunday morning with the second race in the Sportbike class. The start is scheduled for 11:50 a.m. The livestream is available at euromoto.racing/live/.
