Luca de Vleeschauwer had actually been speculating about a move up to EURO MOTO Superbike, but now the Dutch SWPN team has announced the signing of the 23-year-old Belgian in the Supersport class – on the brand-new Yamaha R9, which replaces the previous R6 model.
SWPN and Luca de Vleeschauwer are starting a new chapter together. The Yamaha is new to both of them. The Belgian has previously ridden Kawasaki, Triumph, and Ducati bikes in his Supersport career.
"He has proven that he has the necessary speed and now has several years of experience in the Supersport class," says team manager Frank Brouwer, adding: "Since its debut, the Yamaha R9 has immediately proven itself to be a winning machine in the World Supersport Championship. We will do everything we can to achieve this success in EURO MOTO as well."
De Vleeschauwer has been a fixture in the Supersport class since 2022 and was runner-up in 2024. He finished last season in fourth place overall with five podium finishes. The new Yamaha motorcycles are currently being prepared in the team's workshop. Several days of testing in Spain are planned before the start of the season. De Vleeschauwer will also face a lot of internal competition in the field in the coming season. Dirk Geiger and Lennox Lehmann from Team Apreco are also Yamaha R9 riders.
The SWPN team remains a partner of the Stichting Zorgeloos Kind foundation and is supported by Yamaha Benelux.
