Following his debut in the IDM Sportbike class at Assen, Micky Winkler will not be racing again on the Aprilia RS 660. The WSC-Racing Team by Aprilia is ending the season early.
With just a few days to go before the Öhlins IDM race at the Nürburgring, events are unfolding rapidly. The field in the IDM Sportbike class is shrinking. Following the withdrawal of the injured Anton Södergren (Triumph Germany Racing), Micky Winkler has now also withdrawn. The 23-year-old from Thuringia, hailing from the racing town of Schleiz, underwent surgery on his left hand yesterday and is therefore out of action.
In his debut with the WSC-Racing Team just under three weeks ago in the Netherlands, Winkler had shone with a top-ten finish, even though the event had been preceded by only a single day of testing. In the German Twin Trophy the following week at his home track in Schleiz, he wanted to get to know the Aprilia RS 660 better. In the first race, while leading on the first lap amid changing weather conditions and low temperatures, he crashed. Winkler suffered a complex fracture of his left hand. As a result, not only is the Öhlins IDM race at the Nürburgring canceled, but so is the big Hockenheim finale.
Team manager Roland Matthes is taking the situation in stride: “The most important thing is that Micky wasn’t seriously injured and that he’ll make a full recovery. We had a solid debut with him at Assen and would love to continue working with him. We plan to sit down soon and discuss the 2026 season.”
