Without much fanfare, Maximilian Kofler finished 10th overall in the IDM Superbike series and was the top Yamaha rider. Now he wants more. “I’ve made my mark,” says the 24-year-old from Upper Austria, who races for the family-owned Yamalube Kofler Motorsport team, and he’s continuing in Germany’s top road racing class.

After two years in Supersport, Maximilian “Max” Kofler made the move to the International German Motorcycle Championship twelve months ago, landing directly on the Yamaha YZF-R1. He could hardly believe it himself when he narrowly missed the podium at the season opener. As the year progressed, his results became more consistent, but Kofler remained the top Yamaha rider in the field. “I want to build on that in 2025 and keep moving forward. The switch to Superbike was a big step, but the consistent results at the end of the season showed me that I’ve finally found my footing in this class.”

Yamaha has secured Kofler a spot in the World Endurance Championship for the three European races so he can gain more track time on the R1. The goal is to close the gap on the top five in the IDM Superbike series and, according to Yamaha’s marketing department, “maybe even make it onto the podium in a particularly chaotic or rainy race.”
