Fabio Sarasino has now also been confirmed for the new sportbike class in the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) with the Triumph Germany Racing Team. The 21-year-old Swiss rider from Itingen, who finished sixth overall in the Supersport junior class, is switching from the KTM RC 390 R to the Triumph Daytona 660.
In his new team, there’s already a rider waiting for him who knows him very well. Oliver Svendsen, the reigning Supersport , was the first rider confirmed for Triumph. He and Sarasino spent last season together on the Freudenberg KTM-PALIGO Racing Team. That creates a bond.
Sarasino’s highlight was his third-place finish in Sunday’s race at the Schleizer Dreieck. The trained design engineer now believes “that the new Sportbike class is ideal for my racing future. First, I want to quickly get to know the new motorcycle and the team. My initial goal in the races is to consistently finish in the top ten. I’d also like to move up to the World Championship with the team in 2026.” The Sportbike class will be granted World Championship status in 2026 and will then be held as part of the Superbike World Championship. The IDM therefore offers the ideal platform next year to gather a wealth of data and experience even before the World Championship debut. Sarasino has to juggle his preparation time. “It’s a bit difficult, since I’m starting my military service in January,” he told team boss Denis Hertrampf.
Lothar Kraus, Technical Director at Hertrampf Racing, says: “Introducing the sportbike class to the IDM as early as 2025 is a very good decision. This class is ideal for introducing young riders to larger and heavier race bikes. With Fabio Sarasino, we have a very nice and talented rider on board. I believe he will continue to develop well in 2025.”
Hertrampf Racing is currently working flat out to prepare the race bikes. The full rider lineup is set to be unveiled at the Supercross event in Dortmund on January 10. Testing will take place in March and April 2025, ahead of the season opener in Oschersleben in May.
