A wildcard for the World Championship has been the goal of Danish rider Oliver Svendsen. Since the start of the season, Svendsen has made this ambition clear and backed it up with impressive results. With six podium finishes in six races, he is the rider with the most podium finishes this season and has thus been a regular at every podium ceremony. He even won the first race at the Sachsenring. In the overall standings, he currently sits in second place, three points behind his teammate and two-time world champion Jeffrey Buis.
Nach drei IDM-Wochenenden ist es für Svendsen nun soweit: Er wird vom Team Freudenberg Paligo Racing mit nach Most genommen. Dort wird der Däne neben Jeffrey Buis und Phillip Tonn als Gastfahrer in der Weltmeisterschaft starten. „Endlich habe ich diese Chance bekommen und ich kann es kaum erwarten, bis es losgeht“, äußerte sich Svendsen zu seinem ersten WM-Einsatz. Bis dahin sind es weniger als zwei Wochen, in denen er alles daran setzen wird, um mit vollgeladenen Batterien und topfit seine Mission anzutreten. Denn der KTM-Pilot hat große Pläne für sein Debüt. „Vielleicht schaffe ich es im ersten Rennen unter die Top 10, das wäre mein kleines Ziel. Mein Fokus liegt jedoch darauf, in der Spitzengruppe mitzufahren“, so der 20-Jährige und hofft, sich an diesem Wochenende einen Namen im Fahrerlager der Supersport 300-WM zu machen, um für 2025 einen festen Platz als Fahrer zu bekommen.
Team manager Carsten Freudenberg, however, is taking a more measured approach to expectations for Svendsen: “Oliver is a really strong rider and has definitely proven his abilities this year. If he makes it into the top 15, we’d be more than satisfied.”
His familiarity with the track shouldn’t be a hindrance to his debut on the international stage. Just last month, the IDM made a stop in Most, where Svendsen finished the races with a second- and third-place finish. From July 19 to 21, he now has the chance to build on those successes in the World Championship.
