A little over two weeks after the last IDM weekend in Most, there’s good news from Molenaar Racing. Senna van den Hoven will be ready to race again at the season’s highlight in Schleiz in less than two weeks. “The doctor gave me the green light,” the Dutch rider said, confirming his participation in the upcoming IDM Supersport races.
Van den Hoven crashed during the warm-up on Sunday morning while trying to avoid another rider. He rode onto the grass, returned to the track over the curbs, but it was too late: “My bike was out of control, so I crashed into the gravel trap and the bike hit me,” he recalls. The Yamaha rider suffered serious injuries and was flown to the hospital by helicopter. The result: a concussion, a bruised left lung, a broken hand, stitches in his chin, and many small cuts on his face. “My body felt anything but good during the first week afterward,” he reports.
Fortunately, however, the recovery process went quickly and smoothly, and the 21-year-old was soon facing other “challenges.” “I was already feeling cooped up at home out of boredom after just a few days,” says van den Hoven, who works as a carpenter back home in the Netherlands. “I’ve been back at work for a few days now. However, I have to take it easy because my hand hasn’t fully healed yet,” he adds.
The accident in Most came at an extremely bad time for Senna van den Hoven. He and his team had actually planned to make their first forays into Supersport as guest starters the following weekend at the Belgian Twin Cup in Oschersleben. This year is definitely set to be his last season in the junior class. It is still unclear when and where he will make up for his first tests.
