A wild card for the World Championship—that’s Oliver Svendsen’s (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing) top goal this year. To secure it, the Dane will need to do more than just post good results. He’s also looking for additional sponsors to support him. To that end, the 20-year-old is even taking to the kitchen in Oschersleben.
Despite a cold and the fatigue that came with it, Oliver Svendsen didn’t let it get him down on Friday at the start of the second round of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) season in Oschersleben. He lined up behind his teammate, reigning Supersport 300 World Champion Jeffrey Buis, and finished third in both free practice sessions. Svendsen was pleased with the result and was thus able to successfully check off his goal for the day: “to put in a good performance.”
But that wasn’t the end of the day for the trained auto mechanic. To further boost his racing career, Svendsen is actively seeking new sponsors. He’s expecting a potential sponsor in Oschersleben. And to win them over, he’s even pulling out all the culinary stops. “I’m heading into town right now to buy all the ingredients,” said the KTM rider after the second practice session. That’s because tonight he wants to cook something himself for his guest. It has to taste really good—that’s important to Svendsen. He doesn’t have a lot of space or equipment in his tent, but together with his father, he’d like to serve up something “special.”
He wouldn't reveal exactly what he was going to cook—only this much: either a good pasta dish—you can never go wrong with that—or a Danish specialty. It depends on what he finds at the supermarket.
Whether it's spaghetti Bolognese or smørrebrød: With so much dedication and initiative, surely we can make the upcoming visit a breeze, right?
