Following the second qualifying session for the IDM Sidecar, which took place on Saturday afternoon, the starting grid has now been set. Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt are the pole-setters for this race weekend at the Schleizer Dreieck. They will start the first race from the very front of the grid this afternoon.
While Friday’s two practice sessions had been wet and unpleasant for the seven sidecar teams, the Schleizer Dreieck looked bright and sunny again on Saturday afternoon, with no sign of rain anywhere in sight. For Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt (Team Bonovo Action Team/LCR Yamaha), this made no difference. Even on dry asphalt, they set the fastest time of 1:32.885 and confidently secured pole position after completing the seven qualifying laps. “Things are going great for us,” said Josef Sattler with satisfaction. The duo had already dominated Friday’s practice sessions and showed that they feel right at home on the century-old natural race track.
Ted and Vincent Peugeot (Seventy-Four Racing Team/LCR Yamaha) secured the second starting position. The father-son team managed to improve on their time from Saturday, moving up one spot as a result.
Lennard Göttlich and Lucas Krieg (Team Bonovo Action Team/LCR Yamaha) made a quantum leap in lap times during Q2. The junior team managed to improve their time by nearly six seconds, securing third place. However, Lennard Göttlich was still not entirely satisfied with himself or his laps. “I’m still making too many mistakes, which really bugs me,” said the 18-year-old. The natural race track is a challenge for him and isn’t on his list of favorites. “Nevertheless, we’re looking forward to racing here in Schleiz in front of the large crowd,” Göttlich added.
Enrico Wirth and Werner Leo Lüttke (Zweirad Wirth/LCR Yamaha) secured fourth place on the grid, followed by the two German-Czech teams Markus Schwegler/Ondrej Kopecky (Motorsport Königswartha/LCR Yamaha) and Peter Kimeswenger/Ondrej Sedlacek (MRSC Gunskirchen/LCR Yamaha). Max Zimmermann and Ronja Mahl (Zimmermann Racing/ARS Yamaha) round out the starting grid in seventh place.
