When the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) takes place in Most, Czech Republic, from June 23 to 25, 2023, two Ducatis will be on the starting grid for the first time this year. Supersport World Championship riders Maximilian Kofler and Oliver Bayliss have registered for a guest appearance with Team D34G Ducati. The 22-year-old Kofler is the older brother of Austrian rider Andreas Kofler, who is battling for podium finishes in the IDM and is currently second in the overall standings. Bayliss is currently 15th in the World Championship and the son of three-time Superbike World Champion Troy Bayliss from Australia.
“We’re using the IDM races to prepare for the Supersport World Championship, which takes place in Most in July,” says Kofler, adding: “But we won’t be getting involved in any battles, since we’re racing outside the standings anyway. For me, it’s cool that we’re bringing the first Ducatis to the starting grid in the IDM this year, but I think it’s a shame that they aren’t permanently approved.”
