Walid Khan was unstoppable this IDM weekend at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. With another victory in the Supersport 300, he secured both the maximum number of points and the lead in the overall standings. Teammate Dustin Schneider finished second, just ahead of Inigo Iglesias.
For Walid Khan (Freudenberg KTM-PALIGO Racing), the weekend couldn’t have ended any better. After securing his first pole position and winning the first race on Saturday, things went according to plan for the Dutch rider in the second race as well. After the start, he initially lost his lead to his teammate Dustin Schneider (Freudenberg KTM-PALIGO Racing), but Khan managed to retake the lead on the very first lap. From then on, he led the race for a long time ahead of his rivals Inigo Iglesias (Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki), Dustin Schneider, Ferre Fleerackers (B.art Racing Team), and Marvin Siebdrath (Yamaha bLU cRU IDM by Kiefer Racing). While Fleerackers and Siebdrath lost touch with the leaders in the final third of the race due to their battles with each other, Khan, Schneider, and Iglesias fought it out among themselves. On the penultimate lap, Khan capitalized on the decisive gap that catapulted him back to the front after several duels. The KTM rider pulled away and secured his first one-two finish. “My strategy worked out perfectly in the end, which is why I was able to break away from the other two,” said the winner, whose celebration was so intense that even the airbag in his suit deployed. Walid Khan leaves Oschersleben with a total of 120 points in the bag as the new points leader.
The battle for second place wasn't decided until a photo finish between Dustin Schneider and Inigo Iglesias. The Kawasaki rider made one last attempt to pass Schneider in the final turn. However, his opponent came out of the turn better, so Schneider ultimately crossed the finish line eight thousandths of a second ahead of the Spaniard.
It was also a successful weekend for Ferre Fleerackers. The Belgian once again finished fourth in the second race, securing his best results to date. Reigning champion Marvin Siebdrath finished fifth, just as he did in the first race.
Things didn't go as smoothly for Mate Szamado (Kawasaki Hungary Racing Team). The Hungarian rider was dealing with health issues, which caused him to miss the first race. He finished ninth in his only race on Sunday.
