Profile: Leon Orgis, born June 5, 2001, resident of Arnsdorf, trained mechatronics technician, with a background in pocket and minibike racing, 2017 runner-up in the Northern Europe Cup Moto3 Standard class, one point in the 2018 CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship, and third overall in the 2020 CEV Repsol Moto2 European Championship Superstock 600 class.
Orgis is no stranger to the international scene, but the International German Motorcycle Championship is new to the 21-year-old from Saxony. He has joined the IDM “ Supersport ” series with Kiefer Racing on a Yamaha. We asked him how this deal came about and what we can expect.
Leon, you already raced for the Kiefer Racing Team in 2018. How did this comeback come about?
I took a break last year, but I participated in all kinds of training sessions. Now I really wanted to get back to racing. Right at that moment, Jochen Kiefer called me and asked if I’d be interested in a season in the IDM Supersport . He was looking for a German rider, and I said yes.
What do you think about having two-time motorcycle world champion Sandro Cortese as your coach?
I don’t actually know him personally yet. We’ve run into each other a few times, but without really interacting. I’m looking forward to working with him and I’m sure it will be a great experience. So far, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from Dominique Aegerter.
After all these years of racing in Spain, do you know at least a little bit about the competition in the IDM?
Absolutely. For example, I’m closest with my new teammate Marvin Siebdrath from the 300cc class. We’re both members of the AMC Sachsenring, so we trained together over the winter. From the Supersport class, I know Luca de Vleeschauwer, with whom I raced in the Northern Talent Cup. I’ve competed against Andreas Kofler in the Spanish Championship. Then there’s Thomas Gradinger and a few others whom I’ve known for quite some time.
What do you think will be your biggest challenge?
First, I need to get back to the level I was at in 2021, but I think that’ll happen pretty quickly. Then I’ll have to get used to the Pirelli tires, which are new to me. In the Spanish Championship, we were on Dunlops.
From zero to 100 in the IDM Supersport. Where do you see yourself?
In the top quarter of the class, based on what I’ve seen Andy Kofler do. I think I’m right up there with the best in the league.
