The hair on his head—which was shaved off during the championship celebration in September—has grown back. After winning two titles in the IDM junior class, Lennox Lehmann will move up to the Supersport in 2022 at the age of 16. The details of the agreement between the Dresden-based rider and the Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team have long been finalized. But the latest news from Saxony is that Lehmann will not only compete in the World Championship in the 300 cm³ class, but will also make five starts in the IDM.
“We’re even going to enter him permanently in the championship standings,” team boss Carsten Freudenberg announced. “Lennox will compete in five events. His start at the Lausitzring is set; after that, we’ll decide on a race-by-race basis. The prerequisite is always that there be no overlap with the World Championship.”
For the father-son team management duo of Michael and Carsten Freudenberg, every kilometer that 16-year-old Lehmann races counts. Thanks to the IDM livestream, they can watch the races over and over again to analyze them. For the Freudenbergs, it’s also quite important “that Lennox picks up a few points for KTM here in the manufacturer’s championship as well.” After four wins and five additional podium finishes last year, he’s considered a sure bet to do just that.
Lehmann is insisting on starting number “1” on his KTM, as befits a champion. He has already been training in Spain with his IDM teammate Leo Rammerstorfer.
