After winning his third IDM Superbike title, Ilya Mikhalchik is now taking on a new challenge. The reigning champion is heading to Spain. His former IDM team boss and manager, Werner Daemen, has transferred him to the easyRace Team.
The 25-year-old Ukrainian’s immediate future lies with the Spanish Superbike Championship (ESBK) as part of the official BMW team. Mikhalchik will be fighting for points on the M 1000 RR alongside defending champion Ivo Lopes on the easyRace Team. Mikhalchik knows him and says of the move: “Ivo is the champion, and that gives me great motivation knowing I’ll have a really strong teammate.”
Team manager Eduardo Salvador had this to say about the new pairing: “With Ilya, we hope to be competitive right from the first race. He and Ivo will push each other, and that will help both of them grow as drivers. Of course, it’s a real luxury for us to have two official BMW drivers on our team.”
In addition, Mikhalchik will remain a member of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, with which he competes in the World Endurance Championship. There, he is a teammate of Markus Reiterberger, Jéremy Guarnoni, and Kenny Foray.
