IDM Sidecar: Schlosser/Fries rauschen zum Sieg

The winners of the second race in the IDM Sidecar class at the Hockenheimring are Markus Schlosser and Marcel Fries (Team Schlosser/LCR F1, 600 cc). Tim Reeves and Kevin Rousseau (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1, 600 cc) finished second after a strong comeback. Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1, 600 cc) finished third.

Schlosser and Fries immediately took the lead right after the start. They benefited from technical issues with the Reeves/Rousseau sidecar, which returned to the pit lane after the sighting lap for minor repairs. From there, they proceeded to the warm-up lap. However, according to the rules, the eight-time world champion was now required to start the race from the very back of the grid.

That didn’t seem to bother the Brit much, though. He went on the attack and was back in second place by the third lap. He closed in on the leaders, Schlosser and Fries, in leaps and bounds. But the two held their ground. “When we were told that Reeves was catching up, we were able to easily increase our speed and thus maintain our lead over him,” reported Markus Schlosser, who leads the FIM Sidecar World Championship.

Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt crossed the finish line in third place. The two Germans had a tough time keeping up with Lukas Wyssen and Thomas Hofer (LCR-Yamaha, 600 cc) for much of the race. There was simply no getting past the visiting sidecar team. Four laps before the end of the race, Sattler/Schmidt finally seized their chance to overtake and, a few corners later, also passed the 1000 cc sidecar team of Mike Roscher/Anna Burkard (LCR-BMW F1). “We didn’t match our qualifying times in either race. That made the battle tougher for us. But at least we were able to keep racking up points,” Sattler summed up with satisfaction, looking ahead to the championship.

For Bonovo teammates Bennie Streuer and co-driver Jeroen Remmé, the race was over after just the first lap. Due to technical problems, they had to head straight back to the pits right after the start.

We won’t know who wins the championship this season until next week. The final two sidecar races of the season will take place at the Sidecar Festival in Oschersleben from October 1 to 3. Then we’ll find out whether the 2021 champions will be Sattler/Schmidt, Reeves/Rousseau, or Schwegler/Kopecky.
