Eight-time Sidecar World Champion Tim Reeves (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1) will start from second place in both races at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Todd Ellis and Emmanuelle Clément (Santander Salt/LCR F1, 600 cc) held on to the provisional pole position they secured in the first qualifying session on Friday evening. Although Reeves/Rousseau managed to be faster than Ellis in the second practice session, it wasn’t enough to take the pole position.
Starting from third on the grid, the Swiss duo of Markus Schlosser and Marcel Fries (Team Schlosser/LCR F1, 600 cc) will begin the race. They finished ahead of guest riders Pekka Päivärinta and Ilse De Haas (44-racing/LCR R6, 600 cc). Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1) were unable to improve their position and will start from fifth place—ahead of Mike Roscher and Anna Burkard (LCR F1 – 1000) as well as Bennie Streuer and his substitute passenger Damien Common (Bonovo Action Team/Adolf RS F1).
Sattler and Schmidt Will Focus on the IDM in 2022
The 2021 IDM season is slowly but surely coming to an end. While some teams are still making new plans or are in the midst of negotiations, the Sattler/Schmidt team—which was formed this year but has already grown close—has already confirmed its participation in the IDM: “We’ll definitely be competing again next season,” Josef Sattler said when asked. While they might still be eyeing the World Championship, the team’s priority remains the International German Championship. “Our goal is to start the next racing year well-prepared and in top shape to get the best possible results.” The native Bavarian knows what he’s talking about. First, he unexpectedly had to find a new passenger during the current season, then he crashed before the season opener at Le Mans. He broke his collarbone and injured his ribs. But with 18-year-old Luca Schmidt from Thuringia, Josef “Sepp” Sattler has now found, as he puts it, “a real gem,” with whom he intends to hit the ground running in 2022 and win the championship. It remains unclear whether there will be any guest appearances in the World Championship.
