IDM Sidecar: Streuer and Remmé Seize Their Chance at Victory

The second race in the IDM Sidecar class was a two-way battle between the teams of Bennie Streuer/Jeroen Remmé and Tim Reeves/Kevin Rousseau from the Bonovo Action Team (Adolf RS 1). In the end, Streuer/Remmé emerged victorious with a one-second lead. Josef Sattler and Luca Schmidt were once again plagued by technical problems on Sunday.

Tim Reeves showed what a seven-time sidecar world champion is capable of. The Brit and his passenger had to push their sidecar off the grid shortly before the start due to a technical problem, fixed the issue, and eventually set off from the pit lane behind the rest of the field. By the end of the first lap, Reeves was already in seventh place and chasing the leader, Streuer. Leaving his teammate behind was the goal of the veteran sidecar pro, but in the end, he was unable to pull it off: “We didn’t have enough grip left to pass Bennie without taking unnecessary risks,” said Reeves, who made his IDM debut this year at Assen. As a result, he has no title ambitions.

In third place were Mike Roscher and Anna Burkard, who, as guest starters on their LCR 1000 cm³ sidecar, were not included in the official results. As a result, the third spot on the podium went to Peter Kimeswenger and Kevin Kölsch. With two third-place finishes over the weekend, it was an all-around successful weekend for the two LCR F1 riders: “We’re satisfied; we had a good start today and were able to keep up with Sattler/Schmidt,” said Kimeswenger. Due to another retirement by Josef Sattler because of yet another engine failure, Kimeswenger/Kölsch inherited the podium spot.

There were also exciting battles in the midfield between Max Zimmermann and Ferry Seegers (Adolf RS F1) and Janez Remse and Manfred Wechselberger (Adolf RS 1), as well as Wiggert Kranenburg and Jouk Hahn (RCN F1) and Markus Schwegler and Ondrej Kopecky (LCR F1). However, Zimmermann’s engine also began to act up, which is why he could no longer keep up the pace and fell back to ninth place.

One rider who didn't take the starting grid this weekend was Michael Grabmüller. For personal reasons, the Austrian had withdrawn in advance from the race at Assen as well as from the remaining race weekends at Spielberg and Hockenheim. It remains to be seen whether Grabmüller will end his career with his departure from the IDM season or whether he will return to the starting grid next year.
