Tom Booth-Amos (Füsport–RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) shook up the already competitive junior class of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). The guest rider also topped the timesheets in the second qualifying session at Assen and will start the first race from pole position. The World Championship title contender led in both qualifying sessions but was unable to pull far ahead of the competition. Just 0.355 seconds behind, Dirk Geiger (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team) was already hot on the Brit’s heels.
The Mannheim native had already spent a day training at Assen in early July to prepare for the IDM race weekend. “That went really well, which is why I felt comfortable on the bike right from the start this weekend and was able to push hard,” the 19-year-old revealed. Accordingly, the Mannheim native’s focus for the first race is clearly on attacking: “My goal is to latch onto Tom right at the start and break away from the pack,” Geiger continued.
The front row is rounded out by Luca De Vleeschauwer (Füsport–RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki). The Belgian had a mixed practice session at Assen. The Kawasaki rider crashed a total of three times but remained uninjured. “Assen is actually a track I really like. However, I made a few mistakes that I definitely could have avoided,” said De Vleeschauwer. His strong lap times were enough, however, to secure third place.
