Two races, two photo finishes. That was the outcome of the two IDM Supersport 300 races in Most. Defending champion Lennox Lehmann emerged as the lucky winner, edging out his teammate Dirk Geiger (both of the Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team) by just 0.0017 seconds. Already in the first race, a photo finish between Lehmann and his other teammate, Walid Khan, decided the winner, with Lehmann coming up short.
Throughout the race, there was constant jockeying for position within the leading group. Dirk Geiger, Lennox Lehmann, Walid Khan, Toni Erhard, and Troy Beinlich (both Roto-Store BRT), as well as Luca De Vleeschauwer and Marvin Siebdrath (both Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki), traded positions back and forth.
It wasn't until the final lap that Lehmann was able to take the lead and build up a small lead over his pursuers, which proved enough to secure the victory. “The final lap was just perfect. I went into it in third place and had almost given up hope that I could still take the lead. But then I came out of the slipstream and passed Dirk and Toni, which put me in the lead. I’m completely satisfied with this weekend,” Lehmann said afterward.
Dirk Geiger was also happy with a successful race. The Mannheim native, who was knocked down and crashed on the final lap of the first race, fought especially hard for a spot on the podium. “It was a great race with some good battles. I tried to break away at the start, but that didn’t work out. So I just wanted to stay with the leading group as long as possible. I’m very happy to have added another 20 points to my championship total,” said Geiger.
Luca De Vleeschauwer secured third place. The Belgian, who started the race from third on the grid, had already shown in qualifying that he was in good form. “It was a difficult race, but I felt comfortable on the bike. The last lap didn’t go as I had planned tactically, though. But I think I can walk away from the race satisfied,” summed up the Kawasaki rider.
Toni Erhard finished in fourth place, followed by the winner of the first race, Walid Khan, and Marvin Siebdrath, who claimed victory in the season opener at Oschersleben.
Micky Winkler, who finished third in the first race, crashed on the first lap after a highside.
The excitement continues. From July 23 to 25, the youth team will be visiting Schleiz.
