In the first qualifying session of the IDM Supersport 300 at the season opener in Oschersleben, Marvin Siebdrath (17/Wildenfels) has provisionally taken the lead. With a fastest lap time of 1:36.707, the Kawasaki rider kicks off the new racing season and is clearly in top form. KTM rider Dirk Geiger (18/Mannheim) is in second place, just a hair’s breadth behind at 0.034 seconds.

The third rider in the group is Geiger’s teammate Lennox Lehmann (15/Dresden). The defending champion clocked a lap time of 1:37.420 in the first third of his qualifying session, but was unable to improve on that time due to a front-end crash in Turn 1. Behind Lehmann were the Belgians Luca De Vleeschauwer (18/Erembodegem) and Twan Smits (17/Steenwijk).

The two German teammates, Toni Erhard (20, Schwarzenberg) and Troy Beinlich (18, Pößneck), finished in 6th and 12th place, respectively.

But back to the current pacesetter: Marvin Siebdrath is kicking off his third season this year—his second full season—under the guidance of Team Füsport – RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki. Already during Friday’s first free practice sessions, the Wildenfels native recorded “satisfactory results,” as he himself puts it. “I was able to improve bit by bit and had a 1:37.9 time on the clock at the end of the day yesterday.”

Despite the windy and sometimes changeable weather conditions on the track, his goal for the second qualifying session is still to secure pole position. Unlike the weather, at least this is something Siebdrath can influence. After all, the weather gods are expected to have more unpredictable surprises in store for the drivers on race Sunday as well.

For Siebdath, this season is all about one thing: winning the title! To that end, the high school graduate spent the winter break preparing with strength training and plenty of enduro and supercross sessions. He’s also worked on his mental game. It’s a well-rounded package for a successful season.
