After several unsuccessful attempts to launch the BMW Motorrad BoxerCup, it was finally held for the first time in 2019 as part of the IDM. The new promoter, Wilbers, had managed to convince both young and veteran stars—such as Harald Kitsch—as well as supporters to compete in the Gentlemen’s Cup on the BMW R nineT Racer. American Nate Kern flew across the Atlantic especially for each race and ultimately even finished as runner-up behind Cup winner Christof Höfer.

Nevertheless, following Wilbers' efforts last year, it was decided jointly with BMW Motorrad not to continue the project.

According to a statement from the promoter, the situation caused by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and the completely uncertain outlook for the future leave no other option. Some Cup motorcycles are being sold at a special price. However, Wilbers will remain closely connected to national motorsports and the BMW brand. In 2021, Benny Wilbers plans to once again compete for the title in Germany’s top class of road motorcycle racing, the IDM Superbike 1000, alongside Florian Alt.
