He will only compete in one race this year. Kevin Wahr had actually planned to race the full IDM Supersport 600 season, but COVID-19 and the resulting race cancellations derailed the 2013 champion’s plans.

There were even more reasons not to pursue the plan. The best one is named Marlene and is now almost six months old. Kevin Wahr, 31, became a father for the first time this spring. On top of that, as an authorized signatory in the family business, he was swamped with work. The company supplies heating oil, pellets, natural gas, electricity, fuels, and lubricants to its customers.

But when the IDM round at Hockenheim suddenly became a reality, the Yamaha rider from Calw couldn’t resist the urge. He simply had to compete in his home race. Wahr will be lining up as a guest rider for the Dutch mvr team. “A spot in the top ten would be nice,” he says, adding, “although I don’t really want to just finish tenth. Then I could imagine maybe racing a full season again in 2021.” Wahr spent a day training at the Hockenheimring before the race. “It felt good.”
