Tim Reeves remains at the top of the sidecar field even after the final qualifying session. He eased off the throttle when the first raindrops began to fall over the TT Circuit in Assen. This allowed Markus Schlosser and Bennie Streuer to close the gap to the eight-time world champion to just 0.933 seconds. Josef Sattler took it a bit easier with 17-year-old Luca Schmidt in the sidecar, but that didn’t knock him out of fourth place on the grid.
Jürgen Röder, head of the Bonovo Action team powered by MGM, saw firsthand the skills of his riders—Tim Reeves, Bennie Streuer, and Josef Sattler—along with their crew on site. The die-hard sidecar fan would love to start planning for next season already, but the COVID-19 pandemic still has the travel industry in its grip, making it difficult to make predictions at the moment. “It’s still not clear at all what will happen with this year’s World Championship races,” says the businessman. The tracks in Rijeka, Croatia, the Pannoniaring, Brands Hatch, Estoril, Oschersleben, and Assen are still on the list. The currently applicable quarantine regulations are also the reason why Pekka Päivärinta canceled his participation in the IDM season opener in Assen.
In the IDM Sidecar 1000 cc class, Mike Roscher beat his time from the previous day by a second and a half, despite the rain.
