After three years in the IDM Supersport 600 class, Daniel Rubin is moving on to new challenges. The Yamaha rider from Schwanau has switched classes and moved up to the IDM Superbike 1000 class. His brother Dominik, on the other hand, is taking a break.

Daniel Rubin has been very busy over the past few months—less so on the racetrack, but more so at the Rubin family business. He works as a motorcycle mechanic at the shop. Still, he managed to get in some laps in Spain, the Netherlands, and at Hockenheim. Riding the YZF-R1M, the 22-year-old is aiming for a top-15 finish in his rookie season. He laughs: “A spot in the top ten would be even better, but the competition is extremely strong.” Rubin, who finished as runner-up in the IDM Supersport 600 in 2018, is looking for a challenge. “After three years, I needed something new.” He remains loyal to his race number “74,” however.

For his older brother Dominik, who is a year his senior and has raced in the same class since his debut in the 2014 Yamaha R6 Dunlop Cup, the roar of engines has been replaced by the sound of a baby monitor. The 23-year-old has become the father of a boy. Dominik Rubin has taken a break from racing, as he has also been struggling with a gastrointestinal illness for some time. He’s stepping on the gas all the more in business and at home.
