Fans will have to wait a good two more months, but then the time will finally come. The IDM returns to the Red Bull Ring in Austria from May 22 to 24, 2020. Tickets are now available for purchase online at https://www.gpticketshop.com/de/spielberg/idm/tickets.html.
From 2011 to 2013, Germany’s premier motorcycle road racing series was already a fixture on the motorsports calendar in Styria. Its return after a six-year hiatus promises to be a spectacular show. All IDM classes will be on the grid, complemented by various cup series. In the premier class, IDM Superbike 1000, top-tier riders will be competing, ranging from former MotoGP ace Jonas Folger (D) to Ilya Mikhalchik (UKR), Erwan Nigon (F), Bastien Mackels (B), Alessandro Polita (I), and Julian Puffe (D). Austria will be represented by Stefan “Steff” Kerschbaumer. At the starting line are highly tuned bikes from BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha. They boast well over 200 horsepower, and the title race is also a battle for the brands’ prestige.
In the IDM Supersport 300 junior class, a model from Austria is also making its mark: the KTM RC 390 R. A sophisticated system ensures a level playing field among the various bikes, including the KTM, the Yamaha YZF-R3, and the Kawasaki Ninja 400. The young guns are tearing up the track. The winner of a race is usually not decided until after the final turn.
Thrilling races featuring world-class drivers and rising stars—that’s the IDM. In 2020, it will once again feature public press conferences, autograph sessions, and pit walks. The IDM is and always will be a series you can experience up close.
