One decision was still pending: Who would be crowned IDM champion in the 1000cc sidecar class? Andres Nussbaum/Manuel Hirschi (LCR Suzuki) and Mike Roscher/Anna Burkard (LCR BMW) went into the final race tied on points. After twelve laps, the Swiss duo were crowned champions. They finished second behind the winners, John Smits/Gunter Verbrugge (RCN Yamaha). However, the Dutch-Belgian pairing had no bearing on the outcome of the championship. Roscher/Burkard had to settle for third place in the title race.
In the 600cc class, seven-time world champion Tim Reeves won with his passenger Mark Wilkes (Adolf RS Yamaha). His first IDM record: eleven races, eleven wins. Second place went to Eero Pärm/Lauri Lipstok (LCR Yamaha) from Estonia. Third place was secured by Jakob Rutz/Björn Bosch (LCR Yamaha), who also finished third in the overall championship.
Runner-up Markus Schlosser lost his passenger Marcel Fries (LCR Yamaha) during the race, but managed to pick him up again, and the pair still finished fourth.
Josef Sattler and Uwe Neubert (Adolf RS Yamaha), the newcomers to the 600cc class, are wrapping up a disastrous season. Before the final race, they still had a chance to finish as runners-up. But they retired from both races at Hockenheim. In the final race of the season, oil leaked from a line. “Uwe tapped me from behind right away. That was right before a braking point,” reported Sattler, who immediately veered off the track into the grass.
