The situation in the IDM Sidecar 1000 class has intensified. Mike Roscher/Anna Burkard (D/CH/LCR BMW) lead the overall standings. The mixed duo holds a nine-point lead over Andres Nussbaum/Manuel Hirschi (CH/LCR Suzuki). However, the Swiss duo could quickly turn the tide in the title race in their favor. That is also the plan. And the foundation has been laid: the fastest time in the large-displacement class for Team Hirschi’s Sense with 1:35.432 min at the IDM finale at the Hockenheimring. John Smith/Gunter Verbrugge (NL/BE/RCN Yamaha) set the second-fastest time in the 1000cc category with 1:36.025 min. Roscher is third on the leaderboard with 1:36.202.
Unlike Nussbaum/Hirschi, the Saxon driver made only one tire change during qualifying. But Nussbaum waves this off: “We didn’t gain any time after our second tire change, because that was on the last lap. We only did it in preparation for the race.”
In the 600cc class, Markus Schlosser/Marcel Fries (CH/LCR Yamaha) set the fastest time of 1:34.566. They will start from pole position ahead of the combined field—which is scored separately—comprising riders from two displacement classes. Guest riders Pekka Päivärinta/Jussi Veräväinen (FIN/LCR Yamaha) followed 0.021 seconds behind. Behind them were Tim Reeves/Mark Wilkes (GB/Adolf RS Yamaha).
