IDM Supersport 600: Kevin Wahr Takes Pole Position; the Situation Has Escalated

The atmosphere is electric in the IDM Supersport 600 class. Kevin Wahr is on pole position for the IDM finale at Hockenheim. Sander Kroeze takes second place on the front row, and Daniel Rubin third. Rubin won both races at Assen after championship leader Max Enderlein suffered a broken collarbone during practice and had to return home injured. In the absence of Saxon rider Marc Buchner , Rubin overtook him in the standings, and with Enderlein failing to score any points, Rubin is now just twelve points behind the leader. Enderlein will start from seventh position tomorrow, leading off the third row. The situation couldn’t be any more tense.

Kevin Wahr wants to stay out of it all. “Ideally, I’d like two wins,” says the pole-sitter, “then the guys behind me can battle it out for the title among themselves, and I won’t be getting in anyone’s way.” Wahr, who was considered the title favorite at the start of the season, has long since been out of the running. The 2013 champion has now endured a second year plagued by technical problems and wants to shine at least one more time at the season finale—so he can start fresh next year. Quitting isn’t an option, but he wants a motorcycle he can win with. “I don’t need the fastest motorcycle, but it has to run. Then I’ll be in a position to win.” A 600cc supersport bike or a superbike? “I’m completely open to either.”
