After the first IDM Supersport 600 race this weekend, the podium featured winner Rob Hartog (Kawasaki), Glenn van Straalen (Suzuki) in second place , and Daniel Rubin (Yamaha) in third . After a little over an hour, however, the results of the opening race looked quite different. Supersport-World Championship rider Hartog was stripped of his victory after a technical inspection of his Kawasaki. The bike was one kilogram lighter than required.
This, however, had no bearing on the overall IDM standings. Neither Hartog nor van Straalen received points, as they are not eligible to do so as guest riders. Daniel Rubin received the 25 points for the victory. He is registered in the IDM Supersport 600 class. Kevin Wahr earned 20 points and Vasco van der Valk 16. Marc Buchner had to settle for 13 points. As a result, he lost second place in the overall standings to Rubin. Buchner now shares third and fourth place in the standings with Wahr, tied on points.
Buchner got off to an extremely poor start and had fallen back to seventh place after one lap. “After that, the nonstop battles threw me off my game. There were a lot of collisions,” says the Yamaha rider. Caught up in a battle with Vasco van der Valk, Buchner struggled for a long time to make progress as he’d hoped.
But Rubin also had to fight hard. Although he got off to a good start, he got boxed in at the first corner and initially lost a few positions. In the final four laps, when he had a clear track, he was almost a second faster. At the start of the season, Rubin hadn’t expected to be competing at the top of the IDM. But the 20-year-old is slowly starting to do the math for the title. The finale at Hockenheim would be a great opportunity to clinch the win, as the Motodrom is his home track and only 130 km from his home.
But we’re not there yet. There won’t be a change at the top of the standings this weekend in Assen. Max Enderlein (Freudenberg Racing) remains in first place despite his absence. His lead is so big that no one can catch him. But it’s a tight race right behind him—including for Buchner and Wahr. One thing is certain: things are going to get really tough for all the drivers at Hockenheim.
Marco Fetz won the Superstock class by a hair's breadth, ahead of Moritz Jenkner and Jan Schmidt. The outcome remained uncertain right up to the checkered flag. The gap between the top two was 0.014 seconds.
