Things are going according to plan for defending champion Bennie Streuer (Streuer Racing, LCR F1 Suzuki), who is absent from the race, and his passenger Gerard Daalhuizen. Streuer hasn’t received approval from his sponsors to compete in his home race, even though he’s on the verge of winning the title again. But his backers would rather see him at the Sidecar World Championship, which is currently taking place at the same time in Rijeka. That will cost him many points of his lead in the IDM. Before leaving for Rijeka, Streuer joked: “It wouldn’t be bad if André Kretzer won twice in Assen.” In that case, Streuer’s main rivals , Josef Sattler and Uwe Neubert (Adolf RS1 F1 BMW), wouldn’t take home the full points. Kretzer and his passenger Björn Bosch will start the race from pole position, followed by Sattler. And Kretzer (LCR F1 Suzuki) is hungry for success. He’s still waiting for his first win this year.

Pole position at Assen for André Kretzer and Björn Bosch. Will their first victory follow? Championship leader Streuer wouldn’t mind that at all. Text: Anke Wieczorek, Photo: Dino Eisele
