A blistering start by defending champions Bennie Streuer and Gerard Daalhuizen (LCR F1 Suzuki) paid off: it was the Dutch duo’s fourth victory of the current IDM Sidecar season. However, the pair face a problem in their title defense: they will miss the next IDM round in Assen. Ironically, they have to sit this one out on home turf. Streuer’s presence is required at the Sidecar World Championship in Rijeka at that time. The sponsors want it that way.
This means that Josef Sattler and Uwe Neubert theoretically have a clear path to the top, regardless of whether the disqualification from Zolder for the current second-place finisher stands or not. In Belgium, the camshafts on the Adolf RS1 F1 BMW had been deemed non-compliant . Sattler had filed an appeal against the disqualification. The ruling from the DMSB Sports Court in Frankfurt is expected next week.
However, the fact that there can be a world of difference between theory and practice was evident in Lausitz. Sattler, who was still in second place after the first lap, was overtaken by André Kretzer and Björn Bosch (LCR F1 Suzuki). Sattler had been experiencing brake problems from the start. “I shifted down through the gears to slow down,” said the Bavarian, not exactly amused. As a result, he had initially held up Kretzer, who couldn’t get past him for a long time.
