IDM Sidecar: Sattler Wins Race 1 and Closes In on Streuer

Things are getting tight for defending champion Bennie Streuer. The days when he left the competition in the dust are now a thing of the past. Text: Anke Wieczorek; Photo: Dino Eisele

After 13 laps over four kilometers, the first IDM Sidecar race at Zolder was over. Josef Sattler and Uwe Neubert won it with a 5.595-second lead over André Kretzer and Björn Bosch (AKW Kretzer Racing/LCR F1 Suzuki). Bennie Streuer and Gerard Daalhuizen (LCR F1 Suzuki) crossed the finish line another 10.674 seconds behind, a result that did not sit well with the Dutch team at all. This is because Sattler has now moved up in the IDM overall standings to just one point behind the defending champion.

Sattler’s Adolf RS1 F1 BMW ran like clockwork the entire time. Toward the end, as usual, a few lapped drivers slowed him down a bit, “but with a lead of almost six seconds, I was able to pace myself a bit when passing,” said Sattler, sounding quite relaxed. Streuer, on the other hand, nearly had a collision and had to slam on the brakes.

Mike Roscher and Anna Burkard seem to have a lock on fourth place—this was their third in a row. But there was plenty of action leading up to it. Roscher and Burkard were caught up in a four-way battle with Andres Nussbaum and Manuel Hirschi from Switzerland, Peter Schröder and Denise Kartheininger, and John Smits and Gunter Verbrugge .
