He did it again, even though he had skipped the first qualifying session. Dirk Geiger will start from pole position in the EURO MOTO Supersport final at Hockenheim. Luca Göttlicher had done the same. The reason: “Too cold.” Both Geiger and Göttlicher could afford to sit out that session. When the second qualifying session determined the starting grid, they were there and posted the fastest lap times. The gap between the two frontrunners in the field was just under 25-tenths of a second. Daniel Blin followed, trailing by a good half-second.
For Geiger (Team Apreco-Yamaha), however, today is about much more than just another victory. The 24-year-old can clinch the title as early as the first “ Supersport ” race of the Hockenheim finale. There is a 27-point gap in the overall standings between the favorite and his only remaining rival, Daniel Blin (Automarket AF Racing Team). If Geiger avoids any major mistakes and his car holds up, the Mannheim native will clinch the trophy today. Blin, on the other hand, is hoping that the tide will still turn in his favor.
While the 24-year-old Geiger is certain he’ll move up to the Superbike class with Yamaha in 2027, the situation for Luca Göttlicher (LJ Racing) remains unclear, and the 19-year-old is undecided. On the one hand, he wants to continue with MV Agusta; on the other, he’s being scouted by Ducati teams. “I want to ride where the path toward the world championship begins,” says Göttlicher, outlining his priorities—and before that, he’d love to secure his first win of the season.
After leading in the first qualifying session, Lennox Lehmann (Team Apreco-Yamaha) dropped back to 5th place. His optimism was further dampened by the faster Luca de Vleeschauwer (Team SWPN).
Team manager Thomas Eder is competing as a guest rider at Hockenheim. For him, this weekend marks not only the end of the EURO MOTO Supersport season. The two races on the Ducati Panigale V2 also mark a very personal finale for Eder. The Bavarian is shutting down his team. The Czechs Peter and Filip Feigl, as well as Jorke Erwig, are already looking for new opportunities so they can join another team in 2027.
Guest riders Maximilian Kofler (Ducati) and Max Enderlein (MV Agusta) will start from 6th and 12th on the grid. The Austrian had already raced at the Nürburgring. The Saxon, on the other hand, was making his comeback to racing after a two-year hiatus, and mechanics were constantly working on his bike in the completely screened-off pit.
