SSP: Daniel Blin remains undefeated

Daniel Blin picked up right where he left off at the Sachsenring—with a victory in the EURO MOTO Supersport class Supersport the second race of the season at the Automotodrom in Brno. After the first race in the class in the Czech Republic, the entire podium was identical to the one at the Sachsenring. And yet, everything was different.

Ducati teammates Marcel Brenner and Daniel Blin (Automarket AF Racing Team) were running together at the start. The Swiss rider fell back. While trying to squeeze past Lennox Lehmann (Team Apreco Yamaha) into a corner, Brenner ended up in the gravel and was unable to get back on track.

Blin had a slim lead. Behind him, Dirk Geiger (Team Apreco Yamaha) and Lehmann were locked in a battle. There was a risk that Blin might capitalize on the scuffle and pull away. But it was already too late. After a total of 11 laps, the Polish Ducati rider’s lead had grown to 3.327 seconds by the finish line. The 24-year-old currently has a firm grip on the championship: three races, three wins, 75 points. It doesn’t get any better than that. His fan club had traveled to the track and sang along to the national anthem at the podium ceremony, knowing all the words and singing loudly. Blin announced that he intends to repeat the result tomorrow in the second race.

Since the Brno circuit is just as hard on tires as the Sachsenring, Geiger knew he’d have to conserve his “black gold” if he wanted to make it through the race. “That’s why I took it easy at the start.” In the end, though, it was all over. The front tire was completely shot. His teammate Lehmann had already put a lot of strain on the front end right from the start. Even he couldn’t get close to Geiger in the final laps.

A safe distance behind the leaders, Lorenzo Fellon (Kawasaki Weber Racing), Marvin Siebdrath (MCA Racing), and Luca Göttlicher (LJ Racing) battled for fourth through sixth place. The Frenchman, who has Moto3 World Championship experience, came up short in the end. Honda rookie Siebdrath achieved his best result of the season so far, and “Lucky Luc” Göttlicher had fought his way up the field under difficult conditions. His injured shoulder has not yet fully healed. The fact that his very first race with the MV Agusta ended in fifth place was remarkable.

Local hero Patrik Sedlak (Sedlak Motorsport) started the race as a guest driver but failed to finish in his Triumph. Filip Novotný (SP race project) and Luca de Vleeschauwer (Team SWPN) collided on the ninth lap and crashed.
