Lorenzo Fellon is the only French rider in the EURO MOTO Supersport field. As a Pentecost getaway, the 21-year-old from Kawasaki Weber spent three days competing in the MotoJunior FIM World Championship. Fellon finished on the podium. Things haven't gone quite as well in the EURO MOTO yet—here, Freddie Heinrich leads the team standings.
Lorenzo Fellon is new to EURO MOTO, but he’s no stranger to the sport: he’s a former competitor in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the Moto3 Junior World Championship, and he spent three years in the Moto3 World Championship. His father was the former manager of MotoGP rider Johann Zarco.
At 21, Fellon Jr. has already seen a lot. He joined Kawasaki Weber through Valentin Debise, who raced for the team in 2021. Five years ago, Debise delivered Kawasaki’s best results in a decade. In the Supersport, he finished on the podium six times, three of them in first place. Kawasaki was back at the top of the pack. Debise has now acted as a mediator in the negotiations between team boss Emil Weber and Lorenzo Fellon.
The fact that Fellon secured third place at the European Stock Sport Championship in Barcelona over Pentecost should set him up perfectly for a strong showing at the EURO MOTO this coming weekend in Brno. Will he make his big debut at the Czech racetrack? After all, the Frenchman’s debut at the Sachsenring was a bit of a struggle: 11th place in the first race and a disqualification in the second. Zero points instead of 7th place because his Kawasaki was 2.5 kilograms too light.
His teammate Freddie Heinrich got off to a much better start. The Saxon rider gained a lot of experience in the Northern Talent Cup, the Red Bull Rookies Cup, and the Pro Superstock 1000 Cup.
“In the long term, the goal is for Lorenzo and Freddie to consistently finish in the top 10 in the Supersport,” says team boss Emil Weber, setting out the priorities. “Lorenzo was faster during testing. At the Sachsenring, they were neck and neck.” Weber is already very impressed with the 21-year-old from Saxony. He achieved his goal on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R right off the bat and is ninth overall after two races.
