Almost 20 years ago, Marcel Schrötter competed in his first race in the International German Motorcycle Championship. In 2008, he won his first title in the 125cc class. Now 33, he has his sights set on the overall victory in the IDM’s successor series, EURO MOTO. His goal is to beat “the red machine.”
He’s made his mark: a podium finish on the BMW M 1000 RR at the EURO MOTO season opener at the Sachsenring. But Schrötter wants more. The newcomer from Team GERT56 by RS Speedbikes says: “I’m really happy with second place in the first race. Especially since the podium came as a bit of a surprise to me, having to start from the third row. And because I had no experience with the tires over the distance.” For the Bavarian, it was an almost perfect race. Because he also knows: “Of course, it’s only truly perfect when you’re standing at the very top of the podium as the winner. But I also have to say that the Ducati with Lukas Tulovic is currently in a league of its own at the front. At the Sachsenring, there was simply nothing we could do about it. So second place was the best we could do, but that shouldn’t be the standard for the rest of the EURO MOTO season. The goal is very clear: to beat the red machine.”

The second race showed just how hard Schrötter works and experiments: “Based on what we learned from the first race, we made some technical changes. Unfortunately, choosing a different front tire didn’t give us the boost we were hoping for. That decision wiped out the advantages I had over my direct competitors in the first race. Overall, I had more trouble holding my line and hitting my shift points correctly. It was a bit of a shame, because I had the pace and the power for a second podium finish. Ultimately, it is what it is, since we made this decision as a team and I, as the driver, had the final say. Fourth place is still no disaster; rather, we managed to limit the damage effectively. More importantly, the information we were able to gather will definitely help us a lot the next time we’re in Brno.” Because from May 29 to 31, 2026, the motto at the Czech Autodrom will be: Here we go again!
