Alexander Weizel is one of the few German riders competing in the Sportbike class of EURO MOTO this season. Of the 22 riders currently registered, five are from Germany. One of them is the 18-year-old from Grettstadt, who is entering his second year in this class and aims to make significant progress.
Following his debut last year with the AK Racing Team alongside Korbinian Brandl, Weizel will now compete with his own Weizel Racing Team. He will continue to ride the Aprilia RS 660.
Weizel himself describes his first season as a trial run. “The first year was a huge learning experience, especially with a new team, a new bike, and a completely new class,” says the Aprilia rider with the number 22, who didn’t complete his first full racing season until 2023, back then in the Northern Talent Cup.
The 18-year-old has now set clear goals for 2026. “I expect to finish in the top 7 many times this year.” At the same time, he hopes to strengthen the teamwork within his own team. “That’s why we decided to go it alone.”
When the Schweinfurt native looks back on his past season, he sees his greatest progress primarily in one-on-one battles. “I’ve improved a lot overall, but the one-on-one battles and the first turn after the start were where I learned the most. He definitely wants more of that.
With a new team and a clear focus, the anticipation for the start of the season is understandably high: “I’m looking forward to the high level of competition this year and lots of exciting battles.” For him, a successful year means one thing above all else: “Finishing on the podium regularly.” Fortunately, he won’t have to wait much longer. In just two weeks, he’ll be getting down to business at the EURO MOTO debut at the Sachsenring.
