For Korbinian Brandl, the new season means “back to the roots.” The 19-year-old is staying in the Sportbike class, but in 2026 he is deliberately taking a step back and joining a smaller, independent team, RBR-Racing. For the Oberndorf native, this is already his fourth season in the championship and his second in Sportbike. After starting out in Supersport 300, he will now also be competing in EURO MOTO.
Brandl proved last year that he has the potential to compete at the front of the field. Riding for the AK Racing Team alongside Alexander Weizel, he made significant progress, particularly in the second half of the season. He stood on the podium three times—his strongest results to date. Working with a new suspension mechanic played a crucial role in this, though it took some time to gel at first. “We had to find our rhythm first. Then, at Assen, we took a big step forward. That was the game-changer for me,” Brandl recalls.
Following this successful past year, the new season is about to begin—though under different circumstances. Brandl is once again competing independently with a three-person team. This is a deliberate choice. “It just works better for us this year. This way, we can focus more on ourselves again,” he explains. What he is keeping this year, however, is the collaboration with his suspension mechanic, whom he is bringing into his own team. In doing so, he is also bringing the proven setup with him and laying the groundwork to build on the strong results or even take it a step further.
