Iñigo Iglesias has made IDM history. The 23-year-old Spaniard won the inaugural season of the new sportbike class in 2025. Yesterday, he celebrated the title in the Netherlands with his team, sponsors, and friends. He did not say what his next steps in racing would be.
Iglesias' record in the International German Motorcycle Championship is impressive. Two championship titles in three years. First in 2023 in the IDM Supersport and now in the successor class, IDM Sportbike. In between was a year in the Supersport with the successful RT Motorsport by SKM team, backed by Rob Vennegoor and Frank Krekeler. But the partnership between the businessman from the Netherlands and the tuner from Germany is long gone. The team no longer exists.
Vennegoor continued in the IDM and led Iglesias to the title in the Sportbike class with the newly formed Wematik Racing by RT Motorsports team. The format had already made its debut in the IDM a year before entering the World Championship. Iglesias, who won six races on a Triumph Daytona 660, would be well prepared for the move up. However, his search for a team with which he could compete in the World Championship has so far been unsuccessful. What is certain, however, is that Vennegoor will remain in the IDM with a team in 2026.
Iglesias is scheduled to undergo hand surgery this coming Friday. He has been meaning to address the issues resulting from a fall for some time now and wants to have them resolved before the potential start of the World Cup.
