Things were heating up at the Nürburgring. The unexpected announcement that Honda title favorite Dirk Geiger (MCA Racing) was switching to Apreco Yamaha sparked plenty of conversation in the paddock. Honda team boss Stefan Schmidt didn’t waste any time and Supersport 21-year-old Marvin Siebdrath to the IDM Supersport series for the next two years.
The official transfers will take effect after the IDM Grand Final at the Hockenheimring. The event will take place from September 26 to 28. “I spoke with Marvin at the Nürburgring to ask if he was interested in switching to the Honda CBR 600 RR,” said team boss Stefan Schmidt, “and we quickly reached an agreement.” In addition to the regular IDM events, he has the prospect of wildcard appearances in the World Championship. MCA Racing will continue to compete as a two-man team in 2026, as it has in the past. Regular rider Julius Caesar Rörig is heading into his fifth season in IDM Supersport. Both riders will complete their first test together immediately following the Hockenheim finale.
Newcomer Marvin Siebdrath is currently seventh in the 2025 Supersport and rides a Yamaha YZF-R6 for Team Yamalube Motorsport Kofler. His career began in the ADAC Pocketbike Cup, which he won in 2013. Nine years later, the Saxon from Wildenfels celebrated the overall victory in the IDM Supersport . Two years ago, he moved up to the higher Supersport.
According to Schmidt, there’s a reason why the move to the Honda team is being announced even before this year’s IDM finale. “Everything is settled and out in the open. There’s no point in burdening ourselves with secrets. Dirk Geiger and Marvin Siebdrath should be able to focus on racing at Hockenheim and nothing else. And it would be great if Dirk could still clinch the title for Honda in the last two races with our team.”
