During the sixth round of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) at the Nürburgring, Yamaha Motor Germany unveiled the new YZF-R9 model for the upcoming IDM season for the first time.

Starting now, teams and riders can place their orders to ensure they are ready in time for the 2026 season. The package price for the race-ready motorcycle is 46,229.00 euros. As an added incentive, Yamaha will cover the entry fee for the 2026 IDM season in the Supersport—valued at 6,230.00 euros—for all customers who place an order. This reduces the actual investment for the teams to 39,999.00 euros.

Delivery date in the first quarter of 2026

Wim Vermeulen, who oversees Yamaha’s racing efforts, emphasizes: “The new Yamaha R9 SSP has had an extremely successful debut year in the Supersport. It has thus followed in the footsteps of the Yamaha YZF-R6, which has made international motorsports history in recent years. Our goal is to carry this success over to the IDM in 2026.” The marketing manager adds: “We already have four firm orders. However, we would like to field as many motorcycles as possible in the Supersport and are open to additional interested parties.”

According to Vermeulen, a total of ten motorcycles will be available for the 2026 IDM season, with an expected delivery date in the first quarter of 2026. All orders will be processed exclusively through the GYTR ProShop motorcycle store in Korbußen, Thuringia. From there, the supply of spare parts at the racetrack will also be ensured for the entire season. This applies to all teams racing a Yamaha R1, R9, or R7.

ProShop owner Lars Sänger has already put the necessary infrastructure in place. “The first R9 SSP vehicles are scheduled to be assembled in January 2026, so delivery is expected to take place as early as February, and test operations will begin very soon after. From March 10 to 18, 2026, we’ll be on site at the training provider Bike Promotion in Valencia to support the teams in Spain during test operations.”

Lennox Lehmann, an IDM Supersport, has already tested the new Yamaha R9 SSP and compared it to the current YZF-R6. For the 19-year-old from Dresden, one thing is clear: “The difference is enormous. The bike is extremely stable under braking and delivers an incredible amount of torque. It seems to me that many different types of riders can tap into its potential. You can already see that clearly in the World Championship. I’m looking forward to seeing the R9 fighting for the IDM podium next year—as long as I’m still in the mix!”
